What the heck does Sock Sock, Shoe Shoe mean? There's a story behind that phrase that caused me to take a look at everything I was doing to make sure it was working and that it was heading me toward my goals and dreams.
Here's the premise; I've interviewed people from the rich and famous to the ordinary yet extraordinary people that live next door to you and me. What I have found is that every single person who has achieved success at any measure can identify one thing they started doing or stopped doing that catapulted them forward to achieve remarkable results. There was that defining moment where they came to the proverbial fork in the road and to quote Yogi Berra "they took it"! Except they took the right path and never looked back!
I have catalogued their answers into principles that all of us can learn and apply to our own lives. For example, one key principle is just that; make your decisions based on the principles and values that govern your life. No exceptions, no matter how hard it may be. How do you know what principles you should follow? By knowing who you are and what you stand for. How do you do that? Listen to my speech and you’ll find out!
HOW TO BECOME AN UNCOMMON LEADER
An inspirational message for your organization on the qualities of Transformational Leadership. Click on the video link to hear more about “what’s your motivation.” Then contact Ed to find out how he will tailor this message for your group.
You think you’re a leader, right? Look behind you. Is there anyone there? Even if there are people are they the right people? Are they the people that are willingly following you or only doing it because you’re the boss and you keep reminding them of that fact?
Leadership is tricky and yet every year there are hundreds perhaps thousands of books written on leadership. There is no shortage of people out there willing to tell you what leadership looks like and how to be a leader. There have been a few that have written about transformational leadership which is my passion, but no one I’ve found that can accurately describe the key attributes I believe are fundamental to being a transformative leader. So, why am I different and why is my message different?
Because I’ve lived it and it’s part of who I am and more importantly I’ve seen the results of being the type of leader I talk about. In this speech, I address the 3 key attributes that I believe are the secret to transformational leadership.
Here’s the first question I would ask you if you tell me you want to be an uncommon leader: what’s your motivation? Yes, just like the actors, your motivation is crucial to determining your success and the outcomes you achieve.
REDEMPTION STORY
A compelling ‘Pay-it-Forward’ talk for groups ready to hear a true story that proves radical transformation is real, and possible.
In early 1985 I had it all; all the trappings of what appeared to be a successful life. I had been the number one salesman for my company for the previous two years. We had the semi-custom house and two Mercedes in the garage. But all of the “stuff” was a mirage and a cover for the emptiness that I had inside. I had become highly successful driven by the belief if I worked hard enough and had big goals and dreams I could accomplish anything and nothing was impossible. Reality was, those needs were driven by a real lack of feeling good about myself and who I really was. So, I surrounded myself with all the material things that our society says will make you happy!
Sometime in late 1983 while becoming the top sales guy, I started dabbling with cocaine. By late 1984 I was in full blown addiction and I was in trouble. Hard as I tried, I couldn’t stop doing cocaine and began to rapidly progress through the psychosis that grips an addict. My wife had threatened to walk out if I didn’t get my act together, but in my flesh I couldn’t stop.
During this time I can honestly say I was agnostic at best. I really didn’t want a relationship with God nor did I believe that there was a God that I could get to know and relate to on a personal basis. But God had ideas and plans for my life and my spiritual awakening. In my last ever cocaine binge where I went through a lot of cocaine over a 3 day period I finally hit rock-bottom. Locked up in my bathroom deciding what I should do, God revealed future visions of my life that caused me to hit that point of change. Honestly, at the time I didn’t realize it was a vision from God, but I knew it was a vision, nonetheless. And it radically changed who I was and where I was going.
In this compelling testimony, I explain exactly what God revealed and how it catapulted me to a deep relationship with the true God of this universe through His son Jesus Christ. This testimony has been given in several churches and the response has been overwhelming. People are touched by the true story of God’s grace and mercy when they hear about that dramatic point where God chose to reveal an incredible vision.
I dedicate a portion of my time and efforts as part of God’s plan for my life and will speak to any group, large or small, on a pro-bono basis. If you desire to hear a true story of radical and transformational redemption, please contact me directly.
